12/10/07 - Northside DFA Endorses Smith
"The big news -- Michele Smith is now a Northside DFA endorsed candidate for 43rd Ward Democratic Committeeman! Michele spoke at our November meeting, and was endorsed at our meeting last Thursday. Since we first met Michele her ability to organize and her committment to bringing new people into the political process have been outstanding, and we are proud to count her -- for the second time -- as one of our endorsed candidates."

11/21/07 - Michele "Favored" in Predicted Close 43rd Race
"in the 43rd, we have former aldermanic candidates tim egan and michele smith running again (a year since they were on the ballot), this time against alderman daley's chief of staff, charles eastwood. many expect this to be a bloodbath, but it's odd that none of the candidates or their forces challenged another candidate(s).
michele smith took vi daley into a run-off, so it would seem that she would be favored. eastwood has not been on the ballot before, and will need to raise his name recognition just to be competitive. egan received only 12% of the february vote, where he was relying on his neighborhood.
his last financial disclosure report showed $8,214.00 COH. smith was still reporting a debt of $7,598.80 in her last filing. eastwood has to marshall the machine forces, perhaps bringing in people from other wards, in order to fend off the challenge from the two former aldermanic candidates. he certainly benefits from having two opponents instead of one -- which may be why there's been no challenges. this race starts with all the hallmarks for a close race. only time will tell if it turns out that way."

11/14/07 - Eastwood and Smith in a Tight Race
"43rd Ward (Lincoln Park): Get it in writing. Unfortunately, political promises never are reduced to paper. In the 2007 aldermanic race, incumbent Vi Daley was forced into a runoff with Michele Smith, which she won by 549 votes. In the primary, Tim Egan got 12 percent of the vote, to Daley's 48 percent and Smith's 33 percent. Egan then endorsed Daley, reportedly extracting a promise from her to back him for Democratic committeeman in 2008, when Peg Roth was expected to retire. But Daley's chief of staff, Chuck Eastwood, filed for committeeman, as did Smith and Egan. The outlook: Daley is backing Eastwood. Egan will finish third, with Eastwood and Smith in a tight race."

11/14/07 - Smith Returns To Race For Committeeman
"In nearby Lincoln Park, Republicans Douglas Glick and Kennith Bellaire will face off for the 43rd Ward GOP committeemanship, while Michelle Smith and Tom Egan - who unsuccessfully tried to unseat Alderman Vi Daley earlier this year - are back for a three-way fight with Charles Eastwood, Vi Daley's chief of staff, for the ward's Democratic committeemanship"

11/07/07 - Outlook: Smith Will Win in 2008 and 2011
"43rd Ward (Lincoln Park): It's never too early to start. Last April Michele Smith lost to incumbent Alderman Vi Daley by 549 votes, having spent $400,000. Daley will retire in 2011, and her ally, Peg Roth, is retiring as committeeman in 2008. Smith is running for Roth's job, as is Tim Egan, who got 12 percent of the vote for alderman in 2007, and Charles Eastwood. The outlook: Smith will win in 2008 and 2011."
